Court Reporters Look Back at 2017

It’s only natural in December for court reporters to look back at the year that was.   Throughout 2017, we were fortunate to provide so many talented, hard-working attorneys and paralegals with services in court reporting, legal videography, and video conferencing.

Occasionally, though, we interacted with our clients in different ways.  Here are some of the highlights as CompuScripts Court Reporters looks back at 2017.

Fun

In May, we sponsored a hole at the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorney’s annual golf tournament, offering a bespoke vacation for a hole-in-one.  We enjoyed catching up with our clients, but, sadly, none of the golfers won the prize.   The sun was probably in their eyes.

We also hosted an appreciation luncheon for our Columbia clients at Nonnah’s.  Local paralegals enjoyed a delicious meal and fun door prizes, followed by one of Nonnah’s signature cakes because as Julia Child once said, “A party without a cake is just a meeting.”

In August, we joined a wide swath of America to celebrate Eclipse 2017.  We distributed nearly 1,000 pair of NASA-recommended eclipse glasses to clients across the state.  (When your clients are attorneys and paralegals, you get the good ones.)   In Columbia, we were in totality for about two and a half minutes, some of the best minutes of the year.

Education

In October, we were exhibitors at the Palmetto Paralegal Association’s annual half-day seminar.  Debbie Dusseljee, CompuScripts’ president, spoke to members on Deposition Deliverables: How to Get the Most out of Your Deposition Transcript.

Charity

In November, we wound up our campaign of charitable giving called Words Into Action.  In September and October, clients who booked depositions were given the opportunity to direct our contributions to 13 different charities, each of which was vetted by Charity Navigator.  In the end, CompuScripts donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Houston Food Bank, Global Giving – Puerto Rico, Project CARE, Samaritan’s Purse – Irma, and Water Mission.

As 2017 came to a close, we were doing the same as the attorneys and paralegals we are privileged to work with: scheduling depositions and wrapping presents, attending depositions and mailing presents.  As a year full of highlights draws to an end, we wish you a very Happy New Year, and here’s to creating more highlights together in 2018.
